Lindsey Graham: Benghazi Not a 'Phony Scandal'

By    |   Wednesday, 31 July 2013 11:40 AM

Controversy surrounding the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Lybia, is not a "phony scandal," Sen. Lindsey Graham said Wednesday.

"This is an effort to bring people to justice," Graham said on "Fox & Friends."  "I think if you've got these folks, you would find out how terrorist-centered this attack was. It was not based on a video," the South Carolina Republican said.

Graham, often critical of the White House response to the Benghazi attack, was referring to President barack Obama's recent comments that the alleged scandals in his administration are "phony."

"This is not a scandal. This is a national security failure where four brave Americans died, and we're doing nothing to bring the people to justice, to understand how it failed," Graham insisted, as he continued to criticize the White House for initially claiming the Benghazi attack was spurred by an anti-Islam YouTube video.

"Maybe they're still looking for the guy with the video and that's why they can't find these folks. I don't know," Graham said. "But my belief is the people who killed our folks are roaming around Libya in the wide open and we aren't doing a damn thing about it."

"The basics of what happened in Benghazi are unknown, and the Congress has never been able to interview one survivor," the senator continued. "They're writing books, they're appearing on TV. This has to stop."
