Gingrich Open to Idea of Another Presidential Bid in 2016

Former GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich says it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that he will run again in 2016.

First, he and others in the party must embark on a “very serious analysis” of this year’s Republican failure before deciding on the next go-round, the former House Speaker told the Naples (Florida) Daily News Sunday. "I have no idea at this stage."

Gingrich isn’t impressed with the analysis of Mitt Romney, who blamed his loss on “gifts” Obama gave to minorities and the young. Gingrich told ABC eight days ago that Romney’s explanation is “nuts” and “insulting."

He and his wife Callista were in Naples promoting their new books. And Gingrich is planning another work next summer with his analysis of the 2012 race.

Republicans have to stop blaming their election losses earlier this month on Mitt Romney’s personality, Gingrich says. Instead, the party must begin to "modernize and adapt," he said.

"Republicans have to stop and take a deep breath."

While Gingrich didn’t delve too deeply into details, he urged a "practical solution" to immigration and that the two parties "slow down and listen to each other."

Gingrich thinks Republicans should stick to their guns in negotiations over the fiscal cliff and stand firm on their anti-tax-hike stance. "No deal is better than a terrible deal," he said.
