George W. Bush's director of public liaison has announced that she will support Hillary Clinton for president over the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.
The Washington Post reported Lezlee Westine's announcement, in which she said, "Our nation faces a unique set of challenges that require steady and experienced leadership. That is why today I am personally supporting Hillary Clinton."
"She has the expertise and commitment to American values to grow the economy, create jobs, and protect America at home and abroad."
Westine, who is now the president and chief executive of the Personal Care Products Council, did not comment on why she was not supporting Trump.
The former aide joins a list of conservative leaders and officials who have announced they will support Clinton. Ronald Reagan's political director Frank Lavin said he could not support Trump, according to CNN.
"It might not be entirely clear that Hillary Clinton deserves to win the presidency, but it is thunderingly clear that Donald Trump deserves to lose," Lavin wrote.
Former Chris Christie spokeswoman Maria Comella and former Jeb Bush adviser Sally Bradshaw have sided with Clinton. New York Republican Rep. Richard L. Hanna also endorsed Clinton.
"I will be hopeful and resolute in my belief that being a good American who loves his country is far more important than parties or winning or losing," he said.
Amid the announcements by conservatives that they wouldn't support Trump, one note of endorsement came from former presidential candidate Jeb Bush's son, George P. Bush.
The younger Bush noted that "From Team Bush, it's a bitter pill to swallow, but you know what? You get back up and you help the man that won, and you make sure that we stop Hillary Clinton."
