One of Robert Kennedy's daughters posted on her Facebook page Monday that former President George H.W. Bush told her he plans to vote for Hillary Clinton in November, but his spokesman wouldn't confirm or deny her claims.

Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend posted a picture of herself on her personal page shaking hands with Bush, along with a caption: "The President told me he's voting for Hillary!!" reports Politico.

Her profile posts are set to private, but Politico published a screen grab it had obtained from her post.

Later on Monday, Townsend, a former Maryland lieutenant governor, confirmed in a telephone interview with Politico that she'd met with Bush in Maine, and insisted "that's what he said."

But Bush's spokesman, Jim McGrath, would not confirm her claims that the 92-year-old former president plans to vote for Clinton, the wife of his successor, former President Bill Clinton.

"The vote President Bush will cast as a private citizen in some 50 days will be just that: a private vote cast in some 50 days," said McGrath. "He is not commenting on the presidential race in the interim."

Bush and his wife, Barbara, have stayed out of the race since their son Jeb dropped his own presidential bid, and neither he nor former President George W. Bush went to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland when Donald Trump received his party's nomination.

Several officials from both presidents' administrations have said they support Clinton over Trump, but the elder Bush's former vice president, Dan Quayle, has commented he hopes both of the former presidents will change their minds and vote for Trump.
