Americans rank among being the most stressed people in the world, but it's not all about politics, according to Gallup poll numbers released on Thursday.

The survey, which is part of an annual Gallup poll of more than 150,000 people worldwide, asked people if they'd experienced positive or negative feelings on the day before they were interviewed, reports The New York Times.

In the United States, where 1,000 adults were questioned:

  • 55% said they had experienced stress over "a lot of the day," compared with 35 percent globally. This puts the US with Greece, which has led rankings on stress since 2012.
  • 45% of Americans said they experienced stress over "a lot of the day," compared with 39 percent globally;
  • 22% said they felt "a lot of anger," which was the same as global averages.

A Gallup official said it could not be "definitively" be determined if the stress was because of politics or President Donald Trump, but it was found that people under the age of 50 who earn low incomes and have a negative view of Trump's job performance were more likely to report negative experiences.

The news wasn't all bad for the United States, as 64 percent said they learned or did something interesting the day before, compared to 49 percent worldwide.

Meanwhile, Chad topped the list as having the highest response of negative experiences in the world, while nations in Latin America topped the list as having the most positive experiences.
