Close to half of the nation's uninsured do not realize that they will face a fine if they fail to buy health coverage in just six months' time, a new survey shows.
The Gallup poll showed 43 percent are unaware that they will be required under Obamacare to purchase health insurance beginning Jan. 1.
Blacks, Hispanics, the young, and the poor are even less likely to know, the poll showed.

Those that already have insurance are far more likely to know of the possibility of the fine, the survey of 2,048 adults showed. Seventeen out of every 20 of those insured said they knew of the provision.
In total, three-quarters say they know at least something about Obamacare. However, among the uninsured, that figure plummets by 10 percentage points.
"The federal government is ramping up its efforts to increase awareness among the uninsured to purchase health insurance," Gallup points out. "Those who lack insurance can find and purchase a plan for 2014 through a government website starting Oct. 1."
The poll was conducted from June 20-24.
