The public's approval of Congress has hit a two-year high, according to the results of a Gallup poll released on Tuesday.

Twenty-six percent of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing, according to the new poll, the highest rating since February 2017, when 28 percent said they approved.

Ratings have historically been low for Congress, according to Gallup, with the average approval rating at just 30 percent over the last 45 years. Since President Donald Trump entered the White House, the approval rating for Congress has been as low as 13 percent.

Other results from the survey show:

  • Thirty percent of Democrats approve of Congress, with that number up substantially since the party regained control of the House in last year’s midterms.
  • Among independents, 27 percent think Congress is doing a good job.
  • Only 18 percent of Republicans approving of the work Congress is doing.

The survey was conducted between March 1-10 based on a random sample of 1,039 adults. The poll has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
