U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman told Axios on Monday that President Donald Trump’s administration will reveal its peace plan for Israel and Palestine at an “appropriate time.”
Trump said in September, during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York, that he will release a peace plan within two to four months.
Barak Ravid, the diplomatic correspondent for Channel 10 news in Israel, wrote in Axios last week that Trump’s White House “peace team,” is ready to release its plan for a peace process between Israel and Palestine.
Ravid wrote on Monday that Friedman confirmed this story, saying in a statement that he had a “very productive meeting” with Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, National Security Adviser John Bolton, special envoy Jason Greenblatt and senior adviser Jared Kushner, who is leading the “peace team.”
The ambassador denied a report from a Palestinian newspaper claiming that Trump has already decided to wait to unveil the plan until February.
"I would like to reaffirm that the United States remains committed to sharing its vision for peace with Israel, the Palestinians and other regional and international stakeholders at the appropriate time."
Friedman said that the White House will release the plan "when the Administration concludes that we have maximized its potential for acceptance, execution and implementation."
