Evangelist son of famed preacher Billy Graham says jailed Kentucky court clerk
Kim Davis is "fighting for religious freedom for all of us."
In a post on his Facebook page
Friday, Franklin Graham, the head of a foundation named after his father and head of global charity Samaritan's Purse, says a federal judge's decision to jail Davis after she refused to issue marriage certificates to same-sex couples gives further proof of a "criminalization of Christianity."
"This ripple effect is exactly what we feared would result from the Supreme Court's disastrous ruling in June," he writes.
"As Americans, our constitution guarantees religious freedom which means we should be able to live out our faith in our daily lives."
"As Kim fights this battle, she is really fighting for religious freedom for all of us."
Prior to the Supreme Court decision in June legalizing same-sex marriages in all 50 states, they were banned in Kentucky,
but Gov. Steve Beshear directed county clerks to begin accepting those applications after the ruling.
