Evangelical leader Franklin Graham mocked a Democratic gun-control sit-in at the House of Representatives as a throw-back to 1960s-era protests — and blasted the "hypocrisy" of anti-gun proponents.

In a Facebook post Thursday, the son of televangelist pioneer Billy Graham and head of a foundation named for him, derided President Barack Obama "along with many Democratic leaders" who "believe the problem in the world is with guns."

"Do they think this is the 1960s?" Graham scoffed about House Democrats' unprecedented protest on the House floor that has energized backers of gun curbs, and been dismissed by Republicans as a publicity stunt.

"It takes a human being to pick up a gun and pull the trigger," he writes. "More people are killed with knives annually in the United States than with rifles. More people are killed by drunk drivers annually in America than with all the guns."

"But you don't see them having a sit-in to ban alcohol," he said.

Graham ended his post asking supporters for prayers.

"The hypocrisy of our leadership never ceases to amaze me," he writes. "Our government has become so dysfunctional. The only hope for America is God."
