The progressive group ACRONYM is launching a $10 million online effort to register voters in southern states, Politico is reporting.
The group will target young people and minorities in Arizona, Texas, Georgia, and Florida. It is hoping to register and mobilize more than 100,000 voters online through Snapchat, Instagram, and other digital platforms, according to Politico.
"When you look at young people, when you look at people of color, they are spending a disproportionate amount of time online," said Tatenda Musapatike, senior director of campaigns at ACRONYM. "It's key that we are reaching people where they are. Young people spend more time on Instagram."
The group is also hoping to use peer pressure to convince people to register to vote. It will launch a new tool that lets people look up friends' registration data — information that is publicly available, Politico noted.
