The Mall of America boasts of being the largest mall in the United States -- but the sprawling Bloomington, Minnesota, shopping mecca may soon not be able to make that claim if Miami, Florida gets its wish.

The Miami-Dade County Commission has given the green light for the construction of a huge, 174-acre retail and entertainment complex called American Dream Miami, The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.

The ambitious project, which will be built by Canadian developer Triple Five Worldwide, will consist of 6.2-million-square-feet and cost an estimated $4 billion.

The Journal says the cost includes 2,000 hotel rooms, an indoor ski slope and an ice-climbing wall.

Additionally, the mall would feature a waterpark with a "submarine lake," in which customers where enter a see-through submarine and submerge underwater.

Triple Five, which manages the Mall of America, is now in the process to secure environmental and water permits for the site.
