The first 2020 Democrat presidential poll shows “someone entirely new” favored by 66 percent of Democrats and independents who said they would be “excited” to see a fresh, still- to-be-identified candidate in the next race.

The USA Today/Suffolk University Poll, coming just weeks after Donald Trump was elected president, included Hillary Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Bernie Sanders, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, first lady Michelle Obama, and the choice of “someone entirely new.”

Clinton overwhelmingly won the popular vote in this year’s election, but only 23 percent of the 623 respondents wanted to see her run in 2020, while 62 percent said they prefer she doesn't run.

Michelle Obama was the favorite candidate in the here and now, with 61 percent saying she should follow in her husband's footsteps, although she is strongly on record against it. “It’s not something I would do,” she recently told Oprah Winfrey.

Biden ran strong, with 43 percent saying they would like to see him give it a shot – despite the fact he would be 78 years old come inauguration time. On the other hand, 31 percent preferred he not run.

Sanders was seen favorably by 44 percent of Democrats and independents, but 38 percent didn't like the idea of another run.

Warren received 34 percent support, with 27 percent not excited about her running.

Patrick was favored by 10 percent, with 53 percent having never heard of him before.

Only nine percent of the respondents said “someone entirely new” shouldn’t run.

CBS News reported the poll also took a look at how Trump has fared since the election.

The president-elect received an identical 38 percent from those who are “hopeful” and those who are “alarmed,” while 16 percent are “excited” about his presidency.
