A group of female militia fighters trying to reclaim lands taken by the Islamic State (ISIS) said their enemies will not go to Heaven if they are killed by a woman.
The Independent has an in-depth report about YBS, a militia comprised of Kurds from Iraq, Turkey, and Syria. Within the group is the "jin" unit, made up of all women.
The male and female fighters stay in separate quarters, but on the battlefield they take the same steps and fight the same enemy, side by side.
"They are so scared of us! If we kill them they can't go to heaven. It makes us laugh. ... We make loud calls of happiness when we see them to let them know we are coming. That's when they become cowards," one female fighter named Denis told the Independent. "Under the strict interpretation of Islam by ISIS, if a fighter is killed by a women he cannot go to heaven, a fact the women clearly relish."
Added another fighter named Haveen: "I like that when we kill them they lose their heaven. I don't know how many of them I've killed. It's not enough. I won't be happy until they're all dead."
Scores of Yazidi women have been taken by ISIS and
forced into sexual slavery or killed.
A New York Times report last month talked about the use of birth control within ISIS, to ensure the women will not get pregnant.
In another case, a mass grave containing the bodies of women — some who appeared to be brutally tortured before their death —
was uncovered recently near the Palmyra ruins in Syria.
