The FBI has conducted interviews with top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin and other members of her staff as secretary of state as part of a probe into Clinton's use of a private email server, CNN reports.

The fact that the aides have been interviewed is seen as an indication the investigation will be completed in the next few weeks, CNN reporter Evan Perez said.

While the investigation is continuing, no evidence has been found at this point that Clinton willfully violated the law by using the private server State Department business while she was secretary of state.

Critics say she risked national security by sending and receiving classified emails on the unsecured server, but Clinton has repeatedly said she did not send emails marked classified at the time. Some emails have since been deemed classified.

Clinton herself is expected to be interviewed as a final step in the process, but is in the midst of seeking the Democratic presidential nomination and authorities are reportedly trying to work out a way to talk to her privately without attracting press attention.

Neither Abedin nor Clinton's representatives responded to CNN when asked for comment.
