Elon Musk's 18-year-old daughter has legally changed her name and gender in an effort to dissociate herself from her billionaire father, People reported, citing court documents.
A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge on Wednesday granted the teen's request to have her name legally changed to Vivian Jenna Wilson, which reflects her mother's maiden name, Justine Wilson, the outlet noted.
Vivian's gender was also recognized as female by the judge, who ruled that she will now be issued a new birth certificate to reflect the changes, according to the court documents obtained by People.
Vivian is one of five children shared by Justine Musk and the SpaceX CEO, who married in 2000 and separated in 2008. Vivian initially filed her request on April 18, shortly before her 18th birthday, saying that she wanted to sever ties with her father.
"Gender identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form," she explained of her decision.
Earlier this week Justine shared a tweet saying she was "proud" of her daughter.
"'I had a weird childhood,' my 18 year old said to me. 'I can't believe I'm as normal-seeming as I am,'" she shared in her Tweet. Justine added that she told her child, "I'm very proud of you."
"I'm proud of myself," the teen added.
Musk took to Twitter on Sunday to share a message about his children. He also shares two kids with musician Grimes.
"Happy Father's Day," he wrote, adding, "I love all my kids so much."
Musk has been vocal about his opinions regarding preferred pronouns for transgender and nonbinary people, drawing backlash in 2020 after writing in a since-deleted tweet that while he "absolutely" supported transgender people, he believed "all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare," People noted. He also previously tweeted: "Pronouns suck."
