An illegal immigrant who was able to stay in the United States under an Obama-era program has filed a lawsuit against the federal government after he was arrested during an ICE raid this week.

According to The Hill, Daniel Ramirez Medina is in the U.S. thanks to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. When immigration officials came to his Seattle home on Tuesday to arrest his illegal immigrant father, he was also arrested.

ICE told The Hill Ramirez admitted to being in a gang.

Democrats criticized federal officials' decision to take Ramirez, known as a "Dreamer," into custody because he was supposed to be protected, assuming he follows the rules. The Hill notes that Ramirez received his temporary status in 2014 and renewed it last year.

"Medina was arrested even after identifying himself as a legal U.S. resident, and was reportedly pressured to confess to unfounded accusations by ICE agents," Rep. Ruben Gallego, an Arizona Democrat, said in a statement.

"If President Trump truly believes in the rule of law, upholding our country's 4th Amendment rights would be a good place to start."

President Donald Trump has promised to crack down on illegal immigration. Recent raids resulted in nearly 700 arrests. Critics said the raids were indicative of Trump's policies, but ICE said the operations occur on a regular basis no matter who the president is.
