Mitt Romney's nephew, Doug Robinson, is going to run for governor of Colorado, The Denver Post reported.

"I'm writing to introduce myself — my name is Doug Robinson, and I'm running for governor," Robinson said in a letter to Republican activists, according to the Post. The newspaper reported it had obtained the letter.

"The reason I'm running, and the reason I'm the best candidate for the job is simple — I know how to get things done," he said.

His campaign for the 2018 election is expected to officially launch Friday.

The race could boil down to a battle between the Romney and Bush families, the newspaper noted. State treasurer Walker Stapleton, a relative of former President George H.W. Bush is said to be ready to announce his bid for governor, according to the Post.

Robinson is an investment banker, who calls himself a "committed Republican my entire life."

"My background is in business — not politics," he said.

Robinson, who had briefly considered running for the Senate last year, was Colorado chairman for Romney's 2012 campaign for the White House and served as a delegate to the 2008 Republican National Convention, The Gazette newspaper in Colorado Springs reported.
