Donna Brazile, a former interim chair of the Democratic National Committee, is defending her decision to work for Fox News by saying she is a "pundit" who enjoys bringing an alternative point of view to the right-leaning Fox audience.

Brazile spoke with The New Yorker and called signing a contract with Fox "probably the hardest decision I have ever made in my life because I had to think about the consequences of my actions in ways I never thought about political things."

"I consider myself a pundit; I am not a journalist. I am a pundit with a partisan point of view," she said.

Brazile then discussed the launch of a book she co-authored last October, saying she was on Fox for several days promoting the book and her brand.

"I spent literally three days on Fox. I went from the morning shows all the way to prime time. And I came away believing that it was important to talk to that audience," she said. "Not because they agreed with me but because they were willing to listen. And the Fox audience was different; it was a different response."

Brazile was fired from CNN in November 2016 after it was reported that she shared debate questions with Hillary Clinton's campaign. Following the election of President Donald Trump, Brazile told The New Yorker that Fox started calling her to come on its shows to talk politics.

"What I found interesting was that the challenges I would often have by appearing on Fox News were the kind of challenges I thought we needed," she said. "To be able to talk to people in the suburbs, to be able to talk to people in the city, to be able to talk to people who may be left of center or center-right.

"I found it challenging to be able to communicate and to, you know, disagree. I wanted to get back to that period where you could sit across from somebody who disagreed with you but did it in a respectful way, so you could talk to the audience and not just shout at the host or the anchor."

Regarding Brazile's new job at Fox, a source close to the situation told Newsmax that Brazile will not have anything to do with the debate or town hall process on the network.
