The judge presiding over the trial involving former President Donald Trump and columnist E. Jean Carroll warned Trump's attorneys this week about "entirely inappropriate" comments he's made about the case on social media, CNN reported.
Lawyer Roberta Kaplan, who represents Carroll in the trial, alerted federal District Judge Lewis Kaplan to a post that Trump made on Truth Social, the social media site he established after being banned from Twitter, about the lawsuit on Wednesday.
Trump claimed in the post that Carroll's rape and groping allegations against him are a "made up scam" among other claims. Judge Kaplan said on Wednesday that these comments were "entirely inappropriate" and took issue with Trump's claiming that Carroll "didn't want to produce" DNA evidence, noting that "he, [Trump] for three years, refused to give a DNA sample, and now he wants it in the case?"
Trump's attorney, Joe Tacopina, said he will ask Trump to "refrain from any further posts regarding this case," with the judge warning that Trump "may or may not be tampering with a new source of potential liability," with these comments.
This incident comes after Judge Kaplan told the attorneys for both clients to ask their clients and witnesses not to make any statements that could incite violence or civil unrest, possibly jeopardizing the rule of law or the safety of individuals.
