President Barack Obama's changing statements on the threat of the Islamic State (ISIS) and his reluctance to
form a strategy to address the problem shows he isn't up to the job of leading the country, Donald Trump told "Fox & Friends."
Earlier this year, Obama dismissed the Islamic State, comparing it to a junior varsity team. More recently, he called it a "cancer," and said it must be destroyed, but has also vowed to make the threat "manageable."
"Do we not know by now that this man has no idea what he's doing?" the real estate and entertainment mogul said Monday. "How did he become the president, folks? It's ridiculous. The whole thing is ridiculous."
Trump questioned why Obama didn't keep it to himself rather than announce he
didn't have a strategy to combat the Islamic State, adding that it showed "we have somebody in office that obviously shouldn't have been there. That's been proven and well-documented."
In an interview Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," Obama explained part of his job is "theater," and that he should have "anticipated the optics" when he left to play golf minutes after making the announcement that the Islamic State group had beheaded American journalist James Foley.
Trump said Obama deflected blame for his actions.
"He says part of the job is theater. I think part of the job is competence. And, frankly, he's blaming the media. He's blaming all of you in the media for his going out and playing golf," he said.
Trump said Obama looked like someone who "doesn't want the position" of being president, preferring instead to campaign.
"He likes campaigning. And that's about it. Sort of likes campaigning. I'm not sure he likes anything. But we have a president that really doesn't seem to want to be there," he said.
