President Donald Trump on Tuesday slammed The New York Times and The Washington Post after published emails showed their reluctance to report the meeting last year between former President Bill Clinton and then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch on the tarmac at a Phoenix airport.

Here's Trump's tweet:

The American Center for Law and Justice, the Washington-based watchdog group, published the emails Friday after obtaining them through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Clinton and Lynch met in June 2016 for about a half hour aboard the attorney general's private plane parked on the tarmac at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix.

The meeting occurred hours before the special House Benghazi Committee released its report on the 2012 Libyan attacks that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens and two former Navy SEALs.

"Our conversation was a great deal about grandchildren, it was primarily social about our travels and he mentioned he played golf in Phoenix," Lynch said of the meeting at the time.

Clinton's wife, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, also was under investigation by the FBI for her private email server use as secretary of state.

FBI Director James Comey later announced that he would not recommend charges against Clinton, though she was "extremely careless" in using the private account.

In the emails published via The Washington Examiner Friday, Post reporter Matt Zapotosky emailed the Justice Department about the meeting because he said his editors "are still pretty interested" in the story, but that he wanted to "put it to rest."

A reporter for the Times, Mark Landler, wrote a Justice official saying that he had been "been pressed into service to write about the questions being raised" about the meeting.

When the story first broke, the Times published no articles about the meeting for more than 24 hours, the Examiner noted.
