Sen. Lindsey Graham on Sunday defended Meghan McCain’s veiled rebuke of President Donald Trump at a memorial service for her father, Sen. John McCain — saying “it’s okay, she is grieving.”
In remarks on “Fox News Sunday,” the South Carolina Republican, a close friend of the late senator, said he understood the Saturday remarks from a daughter who was defending her father in a public feud between her father and Trump.
"If you say something bad about Meghan's father, you will know it, she didn't like it,” Graham said. ‘So it's okay, she's grieving.”
He added the service at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. was a "civic lesson" for everyone, "including President Trump."
"Everybody makes mistakes,” he said. “Those who admit it are bigger, not smaller. Know what you are talking about, fight hard, forgive, and have passion, strength and kindness are not mutually exclusive."
