Donald Trump: ISIS Beheadings Like 'Living in Medieval Times'

By    |   Monday, 16 Feb 2015 10:05 AM

The barbaric terrorism that's taking place in countries around the world by the Islamic State (ISIS) is like "living in medieval times," real estate and entertainment billionaire Donald Trump told "Fox & Friends."

On Sunday, ISIS released a video that appeared to show the group's latest beheadings, this time of 21 Egyptian Christians along a beach in Libya. The video release coincided with two terror attacks in Copenhagen in which three people died, including a gunman suspected of carrying out one of the attacks.

"We are truly living in medieval times. Nobody in our generation has seen anything like this, and nobody has seen anything like this for hundreds of years. This is terrible," Trump said Monday.

Reports that President Barack Obama was playing golf after the release of the video was "not such a good optic," Trump said, adding he thought the president would have had other priorities.

"You'd think [Obama would] stay in the White House. Who wants to go on vacation when you're president? You're at the White House. You stay there at command center," he said.

Part of the problem in combating terrorism was that the United States was "perceived as being weak" and was "not prepared as a country" to combat foreign threats.

"There's never been a time where we needed a strong military more than now," he said. "We certainly have no leadership."

Trump, who has often sparred with civil rights activist the Rev. Al Sharpton, said he had an "unbelievably friendly conversation" with him at the 40th anniversary of "Saturday Night Live" on Sunday.

"He loves me. I know Al. He loves Trump," he said. "I've known him for so long. I understand him. He's doing his thing."

Trump, who has expressed an interest in running for president in 2016, said NBC wanted him to renew his popular show "The Apprentice" for another season after Monday evening's finale, but he said, "I have other decisions to make."

He said an announcement "could always happen."
