Reporter Stops Trump Adviser Interview: Not Enough Time to Refute You

It took NBC reporter Craig Melvin just five minutes Thursday to decide he had enough of arguing with Donald Trump's campaign senior adviser Boris Epshteyn before he cut the interview short, telling him there was not enough time to refute everything he was saying about Hillary Clinton.

"Well, we just don't have 20 minutes for me to sit here and try and refute everything that you say — that you know probably not to be true,” Melvin told Epshteyn during an interview on MSNBC, cutting him off even though the Trump surrogate said he would "love to keep going."

The arguments between Epshteyn, a former communications aide with the John McCain-Sarah Palin campaign, and Melvin began right as the interview began. Melvin played a clip of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton complaining about Trump's comments about the nation's generals being "reduced to rubble," and asked Epshteyn how he could say his candidate respects the military when he said there will probably be "different generals" if he is elected.

"We need generals in positions in this country in decision-making positions who will get us out of the issues we're in," said Epshteyn, adding he knows generals can't be "fired" from their ranks, but Trump can still "remove them from their positions."

Epshteyn also denied Trump was talking publicly about what had happened during his first two classified briefings. He also defended Trump's comments about not wanting to detail his plans for ISIS — and then went on to blame Clinton for the radical terrorist group.

"It's pretty rich for Hillary Clinton to talk about ISIS," Epshteyn said. "ISIS grew on her watch. It was effectively born on her watch. It got its name on her watch. ISIS was nothing before Hillary Clinton destroyed the Middle East establishment. She destroyed secular leaders in the Middle East."

"You could argue that about President George W. Bush . . ." Melvin started.

"No you could not . . . then you can say it was a doctrine in 1920s, the beginning of the end of the Middle East," Epshteyn told him. "Go all the way back to the 1500s.

"Under Hillary Clinton, the Middle East has been set on fire. It's her fault. She doesn't get another crack."

Trump also did not walk back a tweet from three years ago, when he commented "what did these geniuses expect when they put men and women together?"

"Donald Trump is 100% -- 100% in favor of men and women serving together," said Epshteyn.

And finally, when Epshteyn brought up the women captured by Boko Haram, which he said Clinton "failed to designate as a terrorist organization," Melvin shut down the interview, even though Trump's adviser shot back, "it is all true, and I would love to talk about it more."
