The Department of Justice has charged a former Iranian military hacker who authorities said hacked into HBO servers and tried to profit from data he allegedly stole.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York plans to hold a press conference at 12:30 p.m. regarding its case of Behzad Mesri, who is accused of stealing 1.5 terabytes of data from HBO servers earlier this year.

Included in the theft were scripts for the shows "Game of Thrones," "Ballers," "Barry," "Room 104," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and "The Deuce." The hacker released a script from "Game of Thrones" and episodes from several shows. He also attempted to extort money from the network in exchange for not releasing anything else to the public.

According to the seven-count indictment, Mesri "was an Iran-based computer hacker" and "a self-professed expert in computer hacking techniques, and had worked on behalf of the Iranian military to conduct computer network attacks that targeted military systems, nuclear software systems, and Israeli infrastructure."

Joon Kim, acting U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, and William Sweeney, assistant director-in-charge of the FBI's New York Office, will discuss the case at Tuesday's press conference.
