Senate Democrats announced Friday legislation that would block President Donald Trump's refugee ban.

The bill would block the ban on the grounds that terror groups are using the ban as a tool for recruitment, according to The Hill.

"Trump's refugee ban puts American lives at risk and puts us right in the hands of our enemies," said

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., the bill's sponsor.

"There's no real danger to America from those who have gone through our vetting system and entered our country. The danger is that we help (the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) recruit lone-wolf terrorists here at home by making clear that they have no place in our society," Murphy said, according to The Hill.

Other sponsors of the bill include Democratic Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, Jeff Merkley-Ore., Al Franken, Minn., Ed Markey-Mass., Mazie Hirono-Hawaii, and Cory Booker-N.J.

A federal appeals court on Monday let the travel ban go partially into effect, ruling that Trump can prohibit entry for people from six Muslim-majority countries — Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen — if they have no connection to the U.S.
