NBC's "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd said President Barack Obama did little on the midterm campaign trail, especially in tight races where most Democrats were "begging" for another party leader, Bill Clinton, to step in and help get out the vote, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

For that reason, Todd said Tuesday morning on "The Today Show," "the Democratic Party is no longer the party of Obama." Todd showed off a map with states where Obama had campaigned, noting they were not the most competitive races, and then another map where Clinton had campaigned — a vast difference.

He added of the downfall: "One thing we do know after tonight — the Democratic Party is the party of the Clintons again."

As Obama's favorability ratings nose-dived, and criticism against his domestic and foreign policy rose, many candidates distanced themselves against the unpopular commander in chief. Mashable noted at least nine races where Democratic candidates were "running away from any connection to Obama," including neck-and-neck contests in North Carolina, Alaska, and Colorado.

In some areas of the South, where civil rights-era anger was stoked in campaign ads by Democrats watching their power slip away, party surrogates from the Congressional Black Caucus stepped in to rally crucial minority voters to the polls as the president remained absent amid fears he could do more harm than good, Politico noted.

Clinton, who remains his party's rock star, enjoyed renewed interest as he traveled the country over the last few months drawing crowds.

Added Todd of his political clout: "Democrats all over the country were begging for Bill Clinton to campaign for them. And they were doing the Heisman to Mr. Obama."
