WASHINGTON — The House has passed a $649 billion defense spending bill that boosts the Pentagon budget by $17 billion.
The vote was 336-87 on Friday. The legislation would provide $119 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The vote came after the House turned back an amendment that would have barred funds for the U.S. operation against Libya.
The House has sent mixed signals on President Barack Obama's military action against Libya, voting to block weapons and military assistance to Libyan rebels but stopping short of cutting off funds.
