Comedian David Spade plans to go easy on celebrities and won't criticize President Donald Trump on his new late-night show.

Spade spoke with DailyMailTV about his new project, "Lights Out with David Spade," which will air on Comedy Central starting July 29.

"We are trying to do the coldest thing. We want to do stuff that no one wants to see," Spade joked.

"Maybe it is time for a non-political, fun show again, making fun of whatever else is going on. Gender reveals drive me crazy, anything going on in music and acting."

The 54-year-old Spade rose to fame in the 1990s as a cast member on "Saturday Night Live." He teamed up with fellow comedian Chris Farley for two movies and several "SNL" sketches before Farley's 1997 death.

He said that maybe it's time for comedians to branch out and step away from politics.

"There are so many funny things that we all make fun of. Get some comedians in and do that again instead of getting so heated about the country," he said.

"The country is going to work or not work without me involved. So I will stay away and let all the other celebrities handle fixing that."

Spade added, "I don't think it'll be as rough on celebs like I was on SNL. Now I'm kind of one of them."

Other late-night hosts routinely bash Trump and other politicians, which has caused some conservatives to cry foul and stop watching the shows.
