David Letterman is coming out of retirement to host a new talk show that will air on Netflix starting in 2018.
Letterman, who retired in 2015 after a late-night talk show career that spanned 33 years and more than 6,000 episodes, said he's anxious to get back behind a desk and a mic.
"I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix," Letterman said in a press release announcing the news. "Here's what I have learned, if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely."
The new show does not have a name yet, but each one-hour episode will entail Letterman conducting a lengthy interview with a guest. Letterman and Netflix have agreed to run six episodes to start.
It's unclear whether Letterman will discuss politics on his show, but it's worth noting that he has criticized President Donald Trump on several occasions.
In March, Letterman said he "would have gone to work on Trump" if he had interviewed him during the presidential campaign. Letterman also has called Trump "despicable" and "damaged."
Stephen Colbert replaced Letterman on CBS' "The Late Show" in 2015.
