Best-selling conservative writer David Horowitz suspects Twitter was trying to marginalize him -- but if so, the attempt failed miserably.

Within a 24-hour period, the social media giant suspended Horowitz from its platform, then reversed its decision, reinstated him, apologized for its mistake, and then re-suspended him for the same tweet that led to the initial suspension in the first place.

Horowitz, the editor of Frontpage magazine and author of the hot new book Dark Agenda: The War to Destroy Christian America, tells Newsmax the bizarre suspensions spotlight the “incompetence and stupidity” of the social media platforms, which he says “makes them even more dangerous because they have enormous power. Big tech companies can wipe out one side of the national debate.”

The author’s Twitter feed was restored after each suspension, and when the dust settled Horowitz realized the brouhaha had actually netted him a whopping 50,000 more followers.

“I had 3 million impressions in 24 hours,” Horowitz told Newsmax in an exclusive interview. “That shows you the power of it -- which is another aspect of the danger, because it’s totally arbitrary. I could get suspended today or tomorrow.”

The suspensions appeared to be just the latest example of Big Tech censoring conservatives. Actor James Wood announced Thursday he’s leaving Twitter “until free speech is allowed” on the platform.

President Trump himself jumped into the fray, tweeting, “How can it be possible that James Woods (and many others), a strong but responsible conservative voice, is banned from Twitter? Social media & fake news media, together with their partner, the Democrat Party, have no idea the problems they are causing for themselves. Very Unfair!”

Horowitz says his suspension followed his response to a tweet by Rep. Ilhan Omar that appeared to blame Israel for indiscriminate Hamas rocket attacks against Israeli civilians.

“She called for the United States to withdraw its support from Israel,” Horowitz says. “She blamed the Israelis for the 700 rockets fired against their civilians. And I just said, ‘OK, let’s get on with killing the Jews’ -- because if the United States doesn’t support Israel -- it’s surrounded by these Arab fascist states, Iran, all of them, these Arab fascist states, with 20,000 rockets aimed at it -- you know it’s days are numbered.”

Horowitz, the founder of the David Horowitz Freedom Center, says the double-standard against conservatives on Twitter and Facebook stems from the Democratic Party’s embrace of identity politics.

“If you disagree with them about whether we should allow open immigration or have open borders,” says the author, “they immediately revert to: ‘You’re a racist.’

“If you oppose open borders,” he says, “you’re actually violating the Twitter code because the Twitter code says you can’t attack people for their race, gender, and so forth.”

Now that the suspensions have been lifted, Horowitz says he feels encouraged that his social-media presence is bigger than ever -- some 117,000 followers on Twitter.

“It tells me there are a lot of people out there that understand the seriousness of this issue, and that gives me a certain confidence,” Horowitz says. “We need an aware public. The people who engage in the political battle need to understand the gravity of the threat, and I think they do more than any time since I became a conservative 30 or 40 years ago.

“To me, the biggest problem we face is that conservatives and Republicans are too damned polite, they’re too nice, too tolerant, too willing to give the benefit of the doubt to people who are trying to destroy them.

“…If you don’t fight these battles because you’re afraid of being called names or getting blocked on Twitter,” he adds, “you’re just throwing in the towel.”
