More Americans Report Mysterious Symptoms After Cuba Visits

The mysterious attacks on American diplomats in Cuba may have spread to American civilians visiting the island nation, with several of them reporting similar symptoms after traveling there in recent months.

According to the Miami Herald, 19 U.S. citizens have called the Department of State to claim they are suffering from symptoms after they traveled to Cuba for various reasons. Since 2016, 24 U.S. diplomats and their spouses have been recalled stateside with hearing loss, vertigo, nausea, and other problems.

Many of the diplomats affected said they heard strange sounds while in their private homes or hotel rooms in Cuba.

"Since September 29, the Department of State has been contacted by 19 U.S. citizens who reported experiencing symptoms similar to those listed in the Travel Warning after visiting Cuba," a State Department spokesman told the Herald.

"We continue to urge U.S. citizens to reconsider travel to Cuba."

The incidents involving the diplomats — which included a U.S. spy network — have been called some type of sonic attack, but investigators have been unable to pinpoint exactly what took place.

One working theory is that a virus was used to attack the Americans.

The State Department withdrew much of its embassy staff in Cuba last fall and ordered 15 Cuban diplomats stationed in Washington, D.C. to return home because of the attacks.

The Cuban government has denied knowledge of the attacks but some in the U.S. government aren't buying that claim.
