The nation's coronavirus numbers are dropping to the point "we really ought to delay this whole COVID bailout thing because it's just $2 trillion more of borrowing," Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said Thursday.

"There was a doctor two days ago in The Wall Street Journal saying this could be gone by April," Paul told Fox News' "America Reports." "I know that sounds optimistic, but count me in the optimistic club."

Paul said he would start opening the economy and "letting people live again."

"We may be at about 100 million or so with immunity now, and I don't know, the numbers are coming down dramatically, so I think there is a lot of good news," Paul said.

Meanwhile, Paul also criticized the Biden administration on immigration, after it reopened a Texas migrant minor facility in Texas that was criticized while former President Donald Trump was still in office.

"Count me [as] one who thinks that there is a load of hypocrisy going on here," Paul said.

Paul also discussed the National Right-To-Work Act he and Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., introduced this week, saying if the legislation was passed nationally, that would give the country a "competitive advantage" over the world.

"People would still be able to organize," he said. "I'm not against collective bargaining. There is value in using your leverage."

He said the proposal will keep workers from being fired if they refuse to join a union, and the measure is "as much about freedom for the worker than it is about anything . . . the unions will have an incentive to work harder and appease the workers because they would have to get the workers' vote instead of all being forced to give dues."

Paul also called for a congressional investigation of Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., concerning his connections with a suspected Chinese spy, but accused House Democrats of disregarding the matter.

"Not only are they not punishing him or investigating it, but they also had the audacity to send him over as a House impeachment manager to lecture us on how bad Donald Trump was," Paul said. "Without question, he should be suspended . . . but [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi is just sweeping this one under the rug."
