Former Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski Thursday declined to say whether he had signed an agreement against making disparaging remarks about the presumptive Republican nominee and that he was not bitter from being fired earlier this week.

"I'm a guy who calls balls from strikes," Lewandowski told Erin Burnett on CNN in his first interview as a paid commentator for the cable network.

Burnett had asked whether he had signed an agreement — reading from a document she said had been obtained by CNN — barring him from commenting negatively about Trump, his companies or his family.

"I'm going to tell it like it is," Lewandowski said. "That's how I've had my entire career and most of the time my own detriment.

"People know I'm a straightforward person. I'll tell it exactly like it is, whether you like it or not."

In a surprise move on Monday, Trump fired the embattled Lewandowski from the campaign after a tumultuous run marked by missteps and infighting.

However, he had nothing but praise for Trump and for serving his campaign.

"I feel honored to have been part of changing the American political system for the rest of our lives and hopefully so much further," Lewandowki said "The Trump family has been so good to me and my family and so generous that it's been so humbling to know that, for a small period of time, I had a small role in helping with this campaign."

Burnett then said, "Certainly no disparaging there."

He later added that Trump had a "very, very short" list of candidates — "It's no more than four right now" — for vice president.

"These are the absolute very best," Lewandowski said. "People that everyone will know.

"They're household names, people he has said will help him achieve his legislative agenda," he continued. "People who are going to very, very happy when he finally makes the determination of which one of those he's going to select."
