House conservatives and staunch Iran hawks are expected to introduce a bill Thursday that would put ironclad restrictions on the country's nuclear or ballistic missile programs, Axios reports.

Reps. Peter Roskam and Liz Cheney are the architects of a bill that would significantly toughen the nuclear accord and erase any thought Iran had of building any kind of arsenal, Axios reports.

The hallmarks of the bill: The U.S. would "snap back" at Iran over any ballistic missile or nuclear program, and it would allow for "anytime, anywhere" inspections of military sites unannounced, Axios reports.

President Donald Trump last week waived sanctions on Iran for what the administration said was the final time, meaning lawmakers have 4 months to pass legislation to fix the Obama-era nuclear accord.

The Roskam-Cheney bill is their response to an Iran bill being drafted in the Senate that conservatives believe is far too weak, Axios reports.

"The Roskam legislation is the gold standard for how to fix the Iran deal when it comes to ballistic missiles," Richard Goldberg, senior adviser at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told Axios.

"The UN Security Council called on Iran to halt any activity related to nuclear capable ballistic missiles — and this legislation mandates a snapback of all our toughest sanctions if Iran violates that Security Council directive.

"It's a stark contrast to the draft circulating in the Senate, which legitimizes Iranian ballistic missiles that could wipe out US bases and allies in the region," Goldberg told Axios.
