Twitter's decision earlier this week to remove verification check marks from members of the alt-right has conservatives concerned that the social media platform is poised to paint them with the same brush, The Hill reports.

The blue checkmark was started by Twitter, ostensibly, to verify that a user is who he/she claims to be. Not anymore, Twitter said earlier this week.

After pressure from liberals that the blue check was instead an endorsement, Twitter responded by removing some verifications earlier this week for white nationalists, including Charlottesville "Unite the Right" organizer Jason Kessler, who just recently had gotten his blue checkmark.

Not the way to go, another conservative writer told The Hill; free speech is free speech for all, regardless of what might be radical viewpoints.

"The reason why is: if you drive them underground . . . they're going to radicalize further," Ian Miles Cheong, a contributor to The Daily Caller told The Hill. “The best way to counter arguments is to provide good arguments."

More policy changes are coming next week, Twitter said.
