TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona grocery store where Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 18 other people were shot has reopened one week after the mass shooting that killed six people and critically injured the congresswoman.
The Safeway store opened Saturday morning about 7 a.m. local time. Giffords was there a week ago, holding an event to meet with constituents when police say a gunman opened fired.
Giffords was shot through the head and rushed to the hospital, but doctors say her recovery is progressing.
Authorities say 22-year-old Jared Loughner was targeting Giffords at the "Congress on Your Corner" event. He is in custody, accused of trying to assassinate the congresswoman and killing a federal judge.
A store spokeswoman says a lot of customers have been coming in the store since it opened.
