US Delivers Coolant to Japan Nuclear Plant -Clinton

Friday, 11 March 2011 01:46 PM EST

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Air Force transported coolant to a Japanese nuclear plant where the huge earthquake may have compromised the plant's integrity.

The United States will continue to assist Japan, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Friday.

"We just had our Air Force assets in Japan transport some really important coolant to one of the nuclear plants," Clinton said at a meeting of the President's Export Council.

"You know Japan is very reliant on nuclear power and they have very high engineering standards but one of their plants came under a lot of stress with the earthquake and didn't have enough coolant," Clinton said.

During a news conference later, President Barack Obama said Japan Prime Minister Naoto Kan told him during a phone call that there were no signs of a radiation leak at a Japanese nuclear plant after the huge earthquake there.
