Hillary Clinton's top aides from her failed campaign communicated with the organizers of the effort to sway the Electoral College from certifying Donald Trump as president, Politico reported.

Jake Sullivan and Jennifer Palmieri walked a tightrope of not wanting to endorse the coup effort, but didn't quash it either, Politico reported, taking the same type of passive-aggressive approach they did with the recount efforts.

Conversations with the movement started Nov. 29 between Michael Baca, the frontman for the coup effort, and Sullivan and others on a conference call, Politico reported.

Baca was looking for guidance from Sullivan and Clinton's team but all he got in return was a tacit endorsement of the effort, Politico reported.

"They were too concerned about the appearance of ever being perceived as sore losers," a Democratic elector told Politico.
