More than 40 million immigrants live in the United States, a figure that includes illegals.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), the number of immigrants in America in 2014 reached a new high: 42.4 million.

The study made several discoveries:

  • The number of immigrants from Saudi Arabia jumped 93 percent from 2010 to 2014, the highest increase from any country;
  • Immigrants make up 13.3 percent of the U.S. population, the highest in 94 years;
  • 18.7 million immigrants (legal and illegal) came to the U.S. between 2000 and 2014;
  • 8.3 million legal residents were added to the U.S. via immigrants and immigrant births from 2010 to 2014;
  • North Dakota (45 percent) and Wyoming (42 percent) were the two states with the largest increase in the number of immigrants who settled there from 2010 to 2014.

The CIS also provides statistics related to immigrants and work, socioeconomics, public schools, and other factors.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has made immigration one of the most talked-about issues during the 2016 campaign. He recently likened immigration security to national security.
