Hackers targeted the Democratic Party, and specifically Hillary Clinton, which is, in part, why the CIA told senators last week that Russia aimed to get Donald Trump elected as president of the United States.

"If the Russians want to get into an unclassified network, one that has young staffers, it's not going to be that hard," a U.S. official who has reviewed intelligence on the intrusions, told The Washington Post.

Hackers released troves of information to WikiLeaks pertaining to Clinton's campaign, including thousands of emails in campaign chairman John Podesta's files.

Trump was livid with the accusations and ripped into the intelligence community, saying in a statement that these were "the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction."

He followed that with an interview with Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday" where he called the allegations "just another excuse. I don't believe it."

"… Every week it's another excuse. We had a massive landslide victory, as you know, in the Electoral College."

Clinton's camp has demanded that officials release more information.

"We now know that the C.I.A. has determined Russia's interference in our elections was for the purpose of electing Donald Trump," Podesta wrote in a statement. "This should distress every American. Never before in the history of our republic have we seen such an effort to undermine the bedrock of our democracy."
