Barack Obama has promised too much and will never be able to fulfill all of his promises, says Chuck Norris. America is broke. Where, he asks, is all the money to pay for Obama’s promises coming from?
Film star, martial arts expert, author and fierce patriot Chuck Norris’ new book, “Black Belt Patriotism – How To Reawaken America,” examines the state of our union and finds much amiss in our culture, our economy and our politics. But he doesn’t merely bemoan all that is wrong. He carefully lays out solutions for our multiple problems.
In an exclusive interview with Newsmax Norris talked about the nation’s plight and how he thinks America can be reawakened and face our situation realistically and effectively.

Newsmax: President-elect Barack Obama seems to be opposed to just about everything you stand for. How do you react to his ideas and plans?
Norris: “All I can do is pray that he'll have a change of heart and keep the traditional values that we were founded upon. That's what my book is all about. It is about our founding fathers, and the direction they had for our country. I just hope and pray that he will have the wisdom to go by what people feel is the best way to go for our country and not by what the government thinks is the best way – unfortunately the government feels that they have the best answers for us and not those of the people’s. We really need to get back to the vision of our founding fathers.
"They had a vision for America that was not corrupted by greed and power. Unfortunately, I believe that many of our politicians have fallen into that trap. We've seen it with the bailouts of AIG, of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and all of them and I'm just worried that our government’s going to bail us out right into bankruptcy. Where in the world are we going to get all the money they need? We are broke now - we have a one and a half trillion dollar debt to China alone. China has bought that much of our debt. What did we give them for collateral?
“Great Britain has a great part of our debt also and we just keep printing money.”
Newsmax: What worries you the most?
Norris: “My biggest worry is that Obama says he's going to tax the upper 5 percent by raising their taxes by 20 percent. But among that 5 percent are the corporations that are hiring middle-class Americans.
“If Obama raises my company’s taxes by 20 percent how am I going to be able to survive as a company? Well, if I’ve got 30 employees that means I'm going to have to lay off 10 employees so I can be able to keep up with the health and benefits and pension plans for my other 20 employees. In that situation, corporations are going to have to lay off a certain percentage of their employees.
“So who is really suffering from this tax increase? It is the middle class. Obama does not address the basic issues that we are facing in this country today. All that really worries me.
"The 40 percent of the people who don't pay any taxes also don't hire anybody. Moreover, in 2005 over 7,000 taxpayers who made over $250,000 a year paid absolutely no taxes. There are $13 trillion in offshore accounts where the super-rich are hiding their money so all that’s going to happen now with the tax increase is that they're going to be sending more of their money to offshore accounts to compensate for that tax increase.
“Then there's the matter of the 3 million manufacturing jobs that are being outsourced to other countries. The main reason is that we are being taxed to death. Between income taxes and employment taxes, capital gains taxes, estate taxes, corporate taxes, property taxes, Social Security taxes we're being taxed to death.”
Newsmax: Is your answer to that a new tax system?
Norris: "Yes. That's why I got involved with Mike Huckabee during the campaign. I really believed that Mike Huckabee had a vision for our country and the more I was around him the more I was impressed by this man.
“The thing that impressed me the most was his idea of taxation in our country. He said we need a Fair Tax — a tax on consumption that everyone pays equally. He said that the IRS is killing us. They are like the Gestapo in our country. You are guilty until proven innocent instead of innocent until proven guilty. There are 66,498 pages in the federal tax code, which nobody understands.
“Even Tony Rangel doesn't know and he writes the tax code and he's in trouble with the IRS. We as a people have got to get the power back. The politicians have become so disconnected from the will of the people.
“Now that Barack Obama is in there , and the Democratic Congress has control people are appearing a little complacent. They think that maybe now everything will be all right. It won't be. That's what I addressed my book —issues such as have we forgotten our roots, have we drifted from the principles and beliefs that our country was founded upon?
“I wrote about the out-of-control debt, and how the government has failed to enforce our nation's borders and illegal immigration. We can spend 85 billion to bail out AIG, but we can't find $2 billion to secure our borders.
“Until the people say ‘enough is enough’ nothing is going to change.”
Newsmax: You have written a great deal about the Constitution , and there is a liberal drive to insist that it is a living document , subject to change as the times change.
Norris: “We have to stop that misconception. The Constitution is not a living document. Good morals lead to good laws. And unless our legislators are grounded in morality the best of laws will be broken and the worst of laws will be made legalizing immorality in our country. I see that happening to us now and I'm very frightened - I pray that Obama may have a solution but I don't believe he has. I believe the direction he is going to go is not going to be a good direction for our country. I pray that I'm wrong.
“Barac Obama has promised the people everything, but he can never fulfill that promise. We are broke. Where is all this money coming from? They just keep printing it and the value of our dollar keeps diminishing. Our kids and our grandkids and generations to come will be paying off our debt.
“That's why I wrote this book.”
