Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, on Tuesday walked back his off-the-cuff timeframe for the release of special counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russian influence in the 2016 election.

In an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt, Grassley was asked when he expected to see Mueller's report — and Grassley replied: "Within a month, if we see it."

But later Tuesday he tamped down the buzz his remarks generated, admitting he was just repeating "rumors" and "it probably isn't a very good basis for what I said" but that "it's been reported every month it was going to come out, and I want it out."
