Texas Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas is urging President Donald Trump not to heed the advice of lawyers and go ahead and print the 2020 census forms with the question about citizenship.

Roy made his comments in a tweet on Tuesday.

He wrote: “Absolutely. It’s the lawyers advising him. @realDonaldTrump should ignore them. Completely. Print the census with the question - and issue a statement explaining why - 'because we should.' Done.”

The Supreme Court had blocked plans for the citizenship question – at least temporarily – in a ruling last week. It concluded the administration provided a “contrived” rationale for asking people if they are U.S. citizens.

Axios reported that Trump is considering issuing an executive order to include the question in the census.

Meanwhile, Roy fired back after being accused of openly calling for Trump to ignore the Supreme Court, Fox News noted.

He tweeted: “Lawless is the state of our border. Lawless is being ruled by Judges on matters of policy choices. Lawless is NOT rightly advising the President to follow the Constitution & include a citizenship question on the census - particularly in light of the opinion!”
