Billionaire industrialist Charles Koch said Wednesday that the Freedom Partners network of conservative donors would only spend $750 million on political activities this election season, down from the $889 million originally outlined earlier this year.

"Our latest budget is going to be lower because people aren't contributing as much," Koch told Kai Ryssdal of American Public Media in an interview published Wednesday. "Probably the total budget over the two years I would guess would be 750 [million], and the amount in politics is 250 [million]."

Freedom Partners, among the nation's most influential political networks, is headed by Charles and David Koch.

Charles Koch's comments marked the first indication that the Koch network is not meeting its fund-raising projections for the 2016 elections, The Washington Post reports.

In April, Koch told USA Today that the network would spend about $300 million during the season via a super PAC and other advocacy groups.

But James Davis, a Freedom Partners spokesman, told the Post Wednesday, "We're on pace to meet our fundraising goals."
