United States Customs and Border Protection agents in Texas' Del Rio sector are being instructed to tell illegal migrants not to board buses bound for Washington D.C., a West Texas mayor said.

While it is not clear who instructed the agents to tell migrants not to board, the event comes as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued an order to the Texas Division of Emergency Management to prepare buses to transport migrants who crossed into the U.S. illegally. The program, however, is voluntary.

According to Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin, he told Breitbart that border agents told him they were instructed to urge migrants not to board the buses bound for D.C.

"We are a small town with very limited resources," McLaughlin said of his town, located 130 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border. "We are already faced with police pursuits and migrants harassing or threatening our residents nearly every day."

"If Biden releases them into our community," he adds, "I will be there to encourage them to take the free trip to D.C. I will tell them D.C. has lots of transportation venues to take you to New York City, Baltimore, Philadelphia, or any other city on the Eastern Seaboard."

"Sending these people to D.C. will expose the big lie," the mayor stated. "Let them see what we are getting and dealing with. It is not just families who are coming here — most are single adults, and we have no idea who most of them are."

Last week, during a press conference, Abbott said that the buses would be heading straight for the steps of the U.S. Capitol.

"To help," Abbott says, "local officials whose communities are being overwhelmed by hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the Biden Administration, Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants who have been dropped off by the Biden Administration to Washington, D.C."
