Casey Affleck reportedly will not attend March's Oscars ceremony where he was expected to present the award for Best Actress this year.

Affleck notified the Academy that he will not attend or present this year, and sources say he did not want to be a distraction from the nominated actresses, Deadline reported.

Following a longstanding tradition, Affleck, who won Best Actor last year for Manchester by the Sea, was scheduled to present the Best Actress award this year.

But his nomination and win last year were scrutinized after the actor was accused by two women of inappropriate behavior during the filming of "I'm Still Here" in 2010, so it's not surprising the actor wouldn't want to appear onstage in the coming weeks in light of the recent #MeToo movement.

Affleck settled lawsuits brought against him by producer Amanda White and director of photography Magdalena Gorka before the film was released. As part of the settlement, both sides are prohibited from speaking about the matter.

After winning the Oscar last year, Affleck told the Boston Globe in an interview, "I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else."

"There’s really nothing I can do about it," he added, "other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time."

Deadline said Affleck was in a "no-win" situation, and that his decision to not attend the Oscars this year will make the award ceremony easier for everyone involved.
