Long gone are the days when a Republican candidate like Ronald Reagan could notch a double-digit victory in California. Indeed, since Dutch's era the Golden State has turned so blue that in 2016 Hillary Clinton walloped Donald Trump there by a 30-point margin.

Due to California's blanket primary system, incumbent Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein's challenger this year is not even a Republican. It is another Democrat, state senator Kevin de Leon. De Leon is even more liberal than Feinstein.
