President Bush will visit Israel and the Palestinian West Bank early next year, according to a report in The Jerusalem Post.
The visit to Israel would be Bush's first since taking office. No sitting U.S. president has ever visited the West Bank.
The invitation was extended to Bush last week during the mideast peace conference in Annapolis, Md., sources in Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office told the paper.
The visit is expected to be "substantive" and not simply a farewell public relations exercise, the sources said.
The White House and the U.S. mission to the United Nations in New York had no comment on The Post report.
